What’s on my iPod of December 2015

I wanted to wait a while after posting the playlists of 2015 to share the playlist for December 2015. Turns out, I found so much great music that I had to create 2 large YouTube playlists! I fell in love with Super Junior (especially Super Junior M) songs, so they comprise the majority of my playlists.

Playlist 12/01/2015

  1. Rising Hope- LiSA
  2. Rock Ur Body- VIXX
  3. I Need U- BTS
  4. Mirotic- TVXQ
  5. Catch Me- TVXQ
  6. Break Down- Super Junior-M
  7. It’s You- Super Junior
  8. Why I Like You- Super Junior
  9. View- SHINee

During this time, I absolutely loved Catch Me and Break Down, both of which I still overplay today. I also found Siwon excessively hot appealing in Break Down.

Playlist 12/14/2015

  1. Spy- Super Junior
  2. Magic- Super Junior
  3. Perfection- Super Junior-M
  4. A-Cha- Super Junior
  5. Hush- miss A
  6. Napal Baji- Psy
  7. Daddy- Psy
  8. Play- Jolin Tsai
  9. I’m Not Yours (feat. Namie)- Jolin Tsai
  10. Boom Boom (feat. Mei)- Dong Nhi
  11. Bad Boy- Dong Nhi
  12. Fantastic- Henry (of SuJu-M)

Many of these songs were added because I found them in the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), which I enjoyed with my brother and my parents. It was exciting even though I watched it 2 weeks after it aired.

Finally Got MNET

Music Network, aka Mnet, is a Korean pop culture channel only offered locally by Time Warner Cable. Other providers may have it, but they do not provide for our location. Thank you, Comcast monopoly.

My thoughts on the channel-

  1. Yay, finally a channel dedicated to k-pop
  2. Wow, I don’t like some of this music
  3. I’ve never heard of some of these groups
  4. Danny From LA just ate a live octopus? Isn’t that animal cruelty?
  5. Thank god there are subtitles for my white, English mind.
  6. so many rap groups act Black wdf
  7. Damn, CJ Entertainment advertises a lot.
  8. I was looking forward to Korean beauty advertisements, but all I see are movie trailers, a Los Angeles theater, and New on Mnet.
  9. Holy fuck we have M Countdown and Superstar K
  10. Alright, I guess I could see the same things on YouTube
  11. Oh, I have never seen this beauty tips show before…
  12. This blind date looks too good to be true
  13. I am so tired of BIGBANG.

M Countdown was the kind of show I wanted. A variety of music groups perform 1-2 songs on a show. I also have Music Bank on KBS World, but I do not watch KBS otherwise.

Style in Asia and Get It Beauty are 15 minute long shows. Style in Asia displays popular locations around the world (typically East Asia, more in the Philippines). Get It Beauty shows makeup looks (for men and women) and gives me makeup tips.

M Playlist has themed songs. More recently, I was listening to their dismal playlist with my family, and nearly every song had the word “hate” in it. “I Hate Myself”, “Don’t Hate Me”, “Hate You”, etc. I have yet to find a playlist that tickles my fancy.

Anyone know of a good waterproof or no-smudge Korean mascara? Looking for volume, as I do not think I have anything with volume.

Atlantic Times Square

On Saturday, I explored the heavily East Asian Atlantic Times Square in heavily East Asian (mostly Chinese) Monterey Park with the help of my cousin, Bonnie. We explored Daiso, Image, Amore/Aritaum, The Face Shop, Tokyo Lifestyle, and Aji Ichiban. Continue reading

G-Dragon and Cultural Appropriation

All terms regarding Korea in this post are referring to South Korea only.

Since I was a new bat mitzvah (13 years old), I have followed BIGBANG, a South Korean pop group. They are part of YG Entertainment, a label that is known for its artists who typically perform Western hip hop music. Despite their huge success, this group, especially the leader G-Dragon, is guilty of cultural appropriation. Continue reading

Trip to Santee Alley + More

I had wanted to visit the Santee Alley since last summer. Somehow, it was easier to convince my mom to take me there once I told her she could buy skincare products for herself. On a school-free Friday in February, my mom, brother, and I woke up at 7AM to take a trip to Los Angeles. Traffic wasn’t too bad. We paid $6 for all-day parking one street away from the Alley, somewhere near the CMC and the Prom district. Continue reading
